This initial screening study of Sahelian climate and vegetation
is based on rainfall data going back to 1931 and
vegetation data from satellites going back to 1981.
Like many other studies this work uses low resolution
(8x8 km blocks) global vegetation data with one data
value per 10 day (dekad). Vegetation is expressed as
NDVI (Normalised Difference Vegetation Index) that
is used as a proxy for vegetation cover and absorption
of photosynthetic active radiation.
